Winemaker Abe Schoener After earning his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Toronto and gaining tenure at St. John’s College in Annapolis, Abe took a sabbatical and found himself studying grape vine physiology, soil science, and basic vineyard management before getting an internship at Stag’s Leap during harvest in 1998. By 2001, he had resigned from his professorship and was entirely devoted to making wine. After working directly under Luna winemaker John Kongsgaard, Abe released his own label, Scholium Project, in 2005. He soon gained recognition as a revolutionary in the industry, earning “cult” status. He has since established an urban winery in Brooklyn, and in 2015 he released wines under the label Blowout.
